Frequently Asked Questions
What is Rattan?
Rattan is a naturally growing tropical vine valued for its strength, flexibility, and timeless beauty, making it ideal for handcrafted furniture and baskets.
What is the difference between rattan and wicker?
Rattan is the material. Wicker refers to the method of weaving. In other words, wickers describe the technique, while rattan is one of the natural materials commonly used in that weaving process.
Is every piece handmade?
Yes. Every Memoire Design piece is handcrafted and handwoven by skilled artisans. Because each item is made by hand, natural variations in texture and finish may occur, making every piece truly unique.
What does sustainably harvested mean?
Harvested at full maturity using sustainable practices that protect natural regeneration for future generations.
Can I use Memoire Design products outdoors?
Most Memoire Design pieces are crafted from natural rattan and are best suited for indoor spaces and covered porches. For direct outdoor use, explore our Outdoor Collection.
Where are Memoire Design baskets and furniture made?
Our primary manufacturing partner has been based in the Philippines for over 35 years. We also collaborate with select artisans and manufacturers in Indonesia, South America, and India to ensure quality craftsmanship across our collections.
What is the protective finish?
Our optional protective finish adds a clear layer of protection to help extend the life of your furniture without changing the natural look or feel of the rattan. It is not waterproof.
What are your current lead times?
Lead times vary by product. Stocked items ship as available. Made to Order pieces begin production upon receipt of a 50% non-refundable deposit. Lead times are estimates and may vary.
Is there a minimum order requirement?
No. Memoire Design does not require a minimum order.
Do you accept COM, customer owned material?
We do not accept COM. We recommend selecting the standard white option for upholstery.
