The Somerset Collection began with a desire to explore woven design through a fresh lens. As Memoire Design’s first mother-daughter collection, Somerset brings together generations of perspective while remaining rooted in the enduring traditions of woven furniture. The goal was not simply to create new pieces, but to develop a collection with a point of view all its own: graceful, distinctive, and thoughtfully considered.
From sculptural seating to tables, accessories, and unexpected accent pieces, Somerset evolved through a process of trial, refinement, and a close study of emerging design trends.

Somerset is more than a collection; it is a beginning. Inspired by a shared English heritage, the enduring charm of the countryside, and a sense of relaxed elegance, Somerset marks the first design collaboration between mother and daughter, Robyn Bailey and Lauren Mull.

Finding the Right Silhouette
A beautiful chair can often be recognized before you notice a single detail. Proportion and silhouette establish its personality first.
Throughout the development of Somerset, particular attention was given to shape: the sweep of a chair back, the curve of an arm, the relationship between a woven surface and the frame supporting it.
Some forms became softer, while others grew more architectural. Circular motifs were reimagined with an elegant horizontal detail, connecting each form and creating a graceful rhythm across the weave. Every refinement was considered with both beauty and function in mind, allowing the details to feel distinctive while remaining purposeful.

The Language of Somerset
Throughout Somerset, shape becomes a defining part of the collection’s design language. Clover-inspired forms, circles, soft curves, and repeating geometric details appear across the pieces, creating a visual rhythm that connects the collection.
These shapes are interpreted through woven rattan in different ways. Open circles create lightness and negative space, while tighter weaving adds texture and dimension. The distinctive clover motif introduces a softer, more decorative element, giving familiar furniture forms an unexpected point of view.
From across the room, it is the silhouette and shape that first define Somerset. Up close, the weaving, curves, and handcrafted details reveal the craftsmanship behind each piece.
From an Idea to a Collection
Developing a collection is a process of editing. An idea may begin beautifully on paper but evolve once translated into three dimensions.
Prototypes reveal what drawings cannot. A curve may need to become more pronounced. A woven pattern may need more breathing room. A proportion that works independently may need adjustment when viewed alongside the rest of the collection.
It is through this process of refinement that individual ideas begin to feel like a collection.
